Workshop Science Communication – November, 10th, 12h30

Workshop Science Communication // November, the 10th // 12h30 // Sala Àgora

The European Project – NEWSERA – Citizen Science as the New Science Communication Paradigm is taking place in Portugal and this participation is being coordinated by a team from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon.

Within the scope of this project, a set of workshops is being developed in higher education institutions, which have to do with the barriers that researchers find to communicate their work outside the academic environment, barriers that have been widely studied in the literature.

One of the main barriers, for which the European Commission seeks to find solutions (which is why it was requested to be addressed in several European projects, among them NEWSERA), is the lack of recognition of this activity in terms of a scientific career. Increasingly, researchers are asked to communicate their research outside the academy, which implies an additional effort for which there is usually no time, funding or motivation.

There are no easy solutions, but it would be good to hear what representatives of university and faculties have to say on this matter, representatives of research units, professionals in the field of science communication and, naturally, researchers. Thus, a workshop model was designed that intends to put these various actors to think about possible solutions and actions to overcome these barriers.

FCT NOVA has decided to join this initiative and it is with great pleasure that we invite you to participate in this workshop, which will take place on November 10, 2022, between 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm, in the Ágora room. The workshop will take place in an informal environment, during lunch time (lunch will be offered) and will be a good opportunity to reflect on this subject in a “thinking lunch”!. No prior preparation will be required, just a willingness to share your knowledge and experience while enjoying lunch.

We ask that, if possible, you’d give us a response to this invitation by November 3, 2022, by filling out this short form. We remain at your disposal for any further clarification. If you wish to contact the NEWSERA project team in Portugal, please contact the coordinator, Cristina Luís – cmluis@fc.ul.pt.
